Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 23rd, 2026
At Folio, we value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, what stays on your device, and what (if anything) is sent to our servers.
1. Information We Collect
Folio is built around on-device journaling and app blocking. We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers in the app.
- On your device: Your reflection answers, optional voice recordings, display name (if you enter one), onboarding answers, daily lock time, which apps or categories you choose to block, blocking state, streak history, and a random app identifier used only inside Folio on your phone. This data is stored locally and is not uploaded to our servers.
- Subscriptions: If you subscribe, our payments provider RevenueCat processes your purchase and a randomly generated subscriber ID to manage your subscription status. This is not linked to your name and is not used for advertising. Payment itself is handled by Apple.
- Permissions: Folio asks for Apple Screen Time access so it can block the apps you select, notification permission so it can remind you at your lock time, and microphone access only if you choose to attach a voice note to a reflection. Apple processes Screen Time permissions under its own policies.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Core features: To schedule your daily lock, apply and remove app shields, present reflection prompts, save your journal and voice notes, and calculate your streak.
- Subscriptions: To unlock the app for subscribers and keep your subscription status current across launches and devices.
- Support: To respond if you email us with a question or request.
3. Third-Party Services
Folio relies on a small number of third parties:
- Apple: Screen Time, Family Controls, Managed Settings, local notifications, and in-app purchases through the App Store. Apple's privacy policy governs how Apple handles data within its systems.
- RevenueCat: Manages subscription purchases and entitlement status on our behalf. RevenueCat receives your purchase information and a randomly generated subscriber ID, and may process technical data such as IP address as part of providing the service. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com for details.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your journal entries, voice recordings, or app-blocking selections with third parties for marketing. We may disclose information only in these cases:
- Service providers: RevenueCat and Apple receive the subscription/purchase information described above, solely to process and manage your subscription.
- Legal requirements: If we are required by law, regulation, or valid legal process to disclose information.
- Protection: To protect the rights, safety, or property of Folio, our users, or others, where permitted by law.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Data stored on your iPhone is protected by your device's security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, etc.). No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you.
- On-device data: Deleting Folio from your iPhone removes locally stored journals, voice notes, app selections, onboarding answers, and related settings from that device.
- Subscription data: Email us to request access to or deletion of subscription records associated with your purchase.
To exercise these rights, contact me at morenog150@gmail.com.
7. Data Retention
Journal entries, voice recordings, onboarding answers, and app-blocking settings remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app. Subscription records held by RevenueCat and Apple are retained per their policies and our account needs, unless a longer period is required by law.
8. Children's Privacy
Folio is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Onboarding answers and all journaling content stay on your device. If you have any concerns, contact me at morenog150@gmail.com.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the app. By continuing to use Folio after changes are posted, you agree to the revised Privacy Policy.
